Week 7 - Prototype Basics

After our lecture on prototyping methods and styles, you should now really begin to extend out your ideas from sketch to sketch model. This is the only real way to effectively evaluate your new toy idea + play pattern. The prototype will be your biggest source of information for others to immerse. John

Week 6 - Schematic Models

We are all continuing work on our second Project. The schematic models of various electronic systems in toys were expressive...and worked after re-construction! John

WEEK 5 - Electronics + Toys

Hey!
We had a nice review of our illustrations and ideas for project one. Again, a nice variety of toy concepts from all. As we move into the basics of toy electronics you will find a common thread to all products. Namely cost. For toys to exist they must be affordable and cost drives the marketplace. As we begin to deconstruct our electronic toys next week - you will have a greater appreciation for the designers / engineers that create "simple" solutions to fun. Remember to bring in your electronic toys! John

Week 4 - Serious Invention

Last night's class was certainly a lot of fun and very creative. Everyone's toy concept presentation was engaging from several viewpoints. We saw a complete thread of originality from student to student...and many great sketches! Again, everyone must focus in and get the main rendering well underway. Hopefully the examples in class inspired all. it is amazing what you can turn a thumbnail into.

I will post a Quicktime of all the de-constructed toy designs later tonight. John

Week 3 - Draw, draw, draw...

Week 3 was a fun studio indeed as we began to draw and capture our design / invention intent in a real form. The thumbnail. Remember to focus on your singular idea. get ready to present in class next week, as we move to rendering, starting with markers in wk4, our ideas in a rockin' professional format.
